The Gebo rune symbolizes gift, balance, and exchange, representing the harmonious give-and-take of energy and balance within the self and the external world. This sequence is designed to help you cultivate a sense of equilibrium, openness, and connection, as the movement mimics the X-shape of the Gebo rune. The movements are smooth and flowing, with an emphasis on balance and energy exchange, while maintaining a constant connection between body, breath, and grounding.

Starting Position

  • Stand in a neutral posture, feet together, arms relaxed by your sides, and knees slightly bent. Take a few deep breaths to center yourself, visualizing energy flowing up from the earth and into your body. Ground your energy as you prepare for the sequence.

Step 1: Form the Shape of Gebo

  • Inhale deeply, and as you do, step to the right with your right foot, creating a wider stance with your legs. Your feet should now be placed wider than shoulder-width apart.
  • At the same time, begin raising your arms outward to the sides of your body, palms facing upwards. The arms should stretch outward, forming a straight line from shoulder to fingertip, while your legs create the diagonal lines of the Gebo rune with the wider stance.
  • As your arms rise, visualize the energy spreading out from your core, radiating through your limbs and connecting with the space around you. This outward movement represents the openness of exchange and the balance of giving and receiving.

Step 2: Bring Hands Above the Head

  • Continue to inhale, and when your arms are fully outstretched, bend your arms at the elbows and bring your hands together above your head, allowing your palms to meet or hover close together.
  • Once your hands meet above your head, turn your palms downward, as if channeling energy from above into your body.

Step 3: Lower the Arms and Sink into the Earth

  • As you exhale, slowly begin to lower your arms, guiding them down toward your waist with the palms facing the ground.
  • Simultaneously, bend your knees slightly, allowing your center of gravity to sink lower. The bending motion grounds the energy into the earth, symbolizing the act of receiving and connecting with the physical world.
  • Feel the weight settle through your body as you lower, and visualize the energy returning to the earth, grounding the exchange of energy back into balance.

Step 4: Return to Starting Position and Raise Again

  • As you inhale once more, begin to raise your arms along the sides of your body, palms facing upward again, while at the same time, straighten your legs and raise your center of gravity.
  • The upward motion represents the act of giving—the energy rising again and expanding outwards. Let your body grow taller as your arms lift, creating the sense of rising from the earth and expanding into the sky.
  • Once your arms are fully extended, repeat the sequence by lowering the arms again and sinking down. Continue the cycle of rising and sinking, maintaining smooth, fluid movements.

Step 5: Repeat the Movement

  • Continue repeating the sequence in a rhythmic flow. Each time you raise your arms, feel the exchange of energy expanding outward, and as you lower your arms and bend your knees, feel the energy returning inward and grounding within you.
  • Maintain a balanced connection between your inward and outward movement, like the rune’s symbol of equilibrium between the self and the world.

By practicing this sequence, you can foster a deeper sense of harmony and balance in your life. The movements of Gebo will help you connect with the flow of energy, enabling you to better understand the importance of mutual exchange in all aspects of your life, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. Let this practice become a reminder of the gift of balance.
